Volunteering in Romania – Volunteer with Us!
Volunteering stages financed by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) and local volunteering opportunities in Baia Mare and surrounding communities across Maramureș.
Quick Guide for Volunteers (European Solidarity Corps)
Each year we organize several short-term volunteering team services of 59 days and one individual volunteering service for up to 12 months. We are currently recruiting volunteers for services starting in spring 2026.
A volunteering service financed by the European Solidarity Corps, consisting of non-formal education activities with children and youth in Baia Mare and surrounding communities.
Young people aged 18 to 30, who are interested in personal development, who enjoy working with children and other young people, and who are open and tolerant toward other cultures.
At our Baia Mare headquarters (47 Victoriei Street), in partner communities, and online.
All costs are covered (transportation, accommodation, food and pocket money, medical insurance, mentoring, trainings). Moreover, the volunteer will gain valuable work experience and understanding of diversity in an international team.
The main role of the volunteer is to assist extracurricular and non-formal educational activities, coordinate different activities and programs for children and youth—typical and underprivileged—in live and online meetings, in Baia Mare and other urban and rural communities. The activities promote human rights, human dignity, equality and equity, non-discrimination, social inclusion, freedom of speech, solidarity, and multiculturalism.

Our 3 Major 7-Year Project Objectives:
About Volunteers and Volunteering in Romania
In recent years, volunteering has become increasingly well-known and accessible across Romania. While ten or fifteen years ago stories about volunteers were rare, today more and more young people choose to make a difference by donating their time and knowledge for the good of the community.
We are proud that at AIST we have promoted volunteering since our founding. Over the years, more than 200 international volunteers and dozens of local volunteers have worked with our organization, bringing participants from across Europe to Maramureș to open a gate to a wider world for our children and youth.
In 2019, we introduced an exciting milestone: for the first time, alongside international volunteers, we selected eight Romanian volunteers within a European volunteering project so that young people could learn from one another in mixed teams, embodying the true spirit of European collaboration and multiculturalism.
If you would like to dedicate your time alongside us for the benefit of the community by supporting educational activities for children and youth, we invite you to send your CV and a brief letter of motivation to ralu.contiu@aist.ro or onoriu.dan@aist.ro.
